Prime ministers past and present were among the mourners at the funeral for Senate Speaker Pierre Claude Nolin at Montreal's Notre Dame Basilica. Nolin died at the age of 64 after a five-year battle with a rare form of cancer. He was appointed to the chamber in 1993 by then-prime minister Brian Mulroney and became Speaker last November. Former Quebec premier Lucien Bouchard says Nolin was a kind and generous man. (Bouchard says Nolin helped him campaign when he ran for the Conservatives and first got elected as an MP -- before the former premier parted ways with the Tories and eventually formed the Bloc Quebecois.)
