Prime ministers past and present were among the mourners at the funeral for Senate Speaker Pierre Claude Nolin at Montreal's 'Notre Dame Basilica. Nolin died at the age of 64 after a five-year battle with a rare form of cancer. He was first appointed to the chamber in 1993 by then-prime minister Brian Mulroney who also spoke at the church service. (Prime Minister Harper told mourners that Nolin was someone who was attentive and sympathetic to the problems of others, tolerant of all points of view and invariably serene. Others attending the funeral include Governor General David Johnston, Quebec Premier Philippe Couillard, Montreal Mayor Denis Coderre and former premier Lucien Bouchard.)
