Transport Minister Lisa Raitt and US Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx have announced wide-ranging, new rail-safety standards. The two held a news conference in Washington this morning to say the measures are designed to avoid disasters like the one in July 2013 in Lac-Megantic, Quebec. Transcript Prediction: << I know that the safety measures that we have outlined today will not be easy and quite frankly they will not be cheap but the financial losses and the cost of cleaning up after such events like lac-megantic would in the long run be far more burdensome and that's the same thing goes for the damages to our environment that will be prevented >>
