Transport Minister Lisa Raitt says she knows the rail safety measures she and US Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx announced in Washington this morning won't be easy or cheap. But she says the financial losses and the costs of cleaning up after disasters like the one in Lac-Megantic will be far more burdensome in the long run. (The new regulations include a different braking system for new trains, slower speed limits for some and retrofits for older model tanker cars.)
