Northern Saskatchewan has the highest crime rate in the country compared to other northern regions. StatsCanada says in 2013, police-reported crime rates in northern areas of provinces doubled the south, and crime rates in the territories were seven times higher. Co-author of the report, Mary Allen, says many violent crimes such as assault are more prevalent in the north. (In Saskatchewan, almost 55-thousand crimes were reported per 100-thousand people in the north, compared to just over nine-thousand in the south.)
