Education Minister Liz Sandals says she wants to look at changing legislation requiring teachers' unions to give a five-day strike notice to force them to specify the type of strike. Her comments come as the Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario is planning a province-wide strike Monday, but president Sam Hammond is refusing to confirm until tomorrow if that will be a full strike or a work-to-rule. Sandals wants them to tell parents of young children as soon as possible if they need to make alternate arrangements for Monday. (The union has told members in a memo that they will be on a work-to-rule campaign next week, which means they'll refuse to administer standardized tests, prepare report cards and participate in professional development sessions but the union will not confirm that publicly.)
