Prime Minister Stephen Harper is back in Quebec for a couple of days hoping to make major gains in this fall's federal election. One of those gains may be a seat in Montreal, where he is to receive the King David award from the city's influential Jewish Community Council this evening. The traditional Liberal riding of Mount Royal is up for grabs this fall with long-time MP Irwin Cotler stepping down. Harper's vocal support for Israel has drawn consistent praise from many segments of the Jewish community, who traditionally voted for the Liberals. The prime minister predicts the Conservative party's policies on the economy and national security will also pay off in the next election. (Currently, there are only five Conservative MPs from Quebec and one isn't running again. Harper made his comments at Trudeau International airport, where he announced new funding for the RCMP and the Canada Border Services Agency in the fight against terrorism.)
