A wildfire burning in northern Alberta has forced about two thousand people from their homes. The Municipal District of Opportunity says a state of emergency is in place for the area, about 330 kilometres north of Edmonton. Wildfire information officer Geoffrey Driscoll says the fire is one of 29 burning in the province and the government may issue a provincewide fire ban. (Cyndi Taron (TARE-en) with the Municipal District of Opportunity says about one thousand residents of Wabasca (WAH'-buh-skah) and another one thousand people from Bigstone Cree Nation have checked into reception centres in Calling Lake and Athabasca. She says Mounties are knocking on doors to ensure everyone knows about the evacuation order, but some people are refusing to leave.)
