About five-thousand people remain out of their homes as wildfires continue to burn in north-central Alberta. The evacuees include people from Wabasca (WAH'-buh-scuh), the Bigstone Cree First Nation and two municipal districts in a rural area north of Edmonton. At last count, there were 70 fires burning in the province, many started by lightning. Wildfire information officer Geoffrey Driscoll says more lightning is forecast for tonight, but the biggest concern is the hot and dry weather. (The wildfires have also forced evacuations from oilsands sites near Cold Lake. Driscoll says flames are threatening the only access road into the facilities.)
