B-C Hydro has signed a deal with the province's construction unions with a plan for labour peace while building the Site C hydroelectric dam. B-C Building Trades has waived the practice of signing agreements that restrict other non-affiliated groups from working on the site and it allows for independent and First Nations contractors to take part. Premier Christy Clark says B-C Hydro will then place added weight on proposals that recognize a mixed union and non-union workforce. (The project is estimated to cost almost nine billion dollars and is expected to be complete by 2024.)
