2015-06-01 | RCMP Harassment Lawsuit

Preview Clip

Several female Mounties from across the country will be in B-C Supreme Court today, hoping to certify a class action lawsuit. About 360 current and former female RCMP members are alleging gender discrimination, bullying and harassment within the force. Joanne Mayer worked for the force in the late 1980s before quitting because of alleged sexist treatment. She says she was emboldened to come forward with her story after hearing about the experiences of RCMP veteran Janet Merlo, who launched the suit three years ago. (A spokesman for the federal Public Safety Department wouldn't comment while the case is in court but said all RCMP members should feel safe and respected amongst their colleagues.)
