DNA evidence has led Winnipeg police to re-open the file on a 52-year-old woman whose body was pulled from the Red River three years ago. Audrey Desjarlais, a former Alberta resident, remained as a 'Jane Doe', despite tips and leads that may have led to her identification much sooner. Police Superintendent Danny Smyth (SMYTH) says DNA analysis may have been done sooner, but witnesses reported seeing Desjarlais in two southern Manitoba communities. (Barb Desjarlais, the woman's daughter who lives in Regina, had pressed Winnipeg police for DNA analysis, believing that the body was that of her mother.)
