More details are emerging about the cost of the Manitoba NDP leadership race that almost toppled Premier Greg Selinger. Newly released documents show that Steve Ashton, who finished third, raised only 44-thousand dollars for his campaign and ended with a deficit of almost 17-thousand dollars. Ashton says fundraising was a challenge, given the fact the race was a short one that included the Christmas holidays. (Second-place finisher Theresa Oswald raised a lot more money and finished with a small surplus. Selinger has yet to file his financial returns from the race.)
