The restaurant industry and other employers are to meet tomorrow with Alberta's NDP government about the plan to hike the minimum wage to 15 dollars by 2018. Restaurants Canada is recommending the province take the economy into account before raising the rate. Spokesman Mark von Schellwitz says the industry has some recommendations for the province. (The industry says the province should continue to allow restaurants and bars that serve liquor to pay a lower rate to servers who earn tips and also wants a lower rate for young people in their first jobs. It also wants the government to study how a planned hike to the minimum wage in October will affect the economy before announcing future increases.)
