Alberta first responders are trying to figure out how to pluck four Mounties off a remote island in northwestern Alberta. The four were on duty patrolling the Athabasca River about 35 kilometres northwest of Whitecourt when their jet boat overturned about lunchtime. RCMP spokeswoman Sergeant Josee Valiquette says the boat hit something, but she doesn't know what. (She says the officers managed to call for help when they made it to shore and are all O-K. Officials with Alberta Environment says rescue workers were deciding what the best way was to reach the officers -- by helicopter or boat.)
