A hiker whose arm was broken in a grizzly attack near Horsefly, B-C, likely could not have stopped the animal from lunging. B-C conservation officer Len Butler says the grizzly was probably taken off guard and bit down on the woman in self-defence. He says the victim and her companion emerged into a knoll about the same time as the bear. (Butler says the woman in her mid-20s was treated at a Kamloops hospital and is recovering well.)
