2015-06-18 | Manitoba Sixties Scoop Apology

Preview Clip

Manitoba is set to become the first province today to formally apologize to aboriginal children who were taken from their homes and placed with non-aboriginal families. Premier Greg Selinger is scheduled to deliver the apology in the legislature following an honouring ceremony of '60s Scoop victims. For adoptee Christine Merasty, the apology won't give her back time with her biological grandparents or do much to quell the anger at being taken away from her mother as a baby. (Aboriginal leaders have said they welcome the apology but hope it will be accompanied by action.)
