The federal government has laid new charges in relation to the Lac-Megantic rail disaster, including additional counts against the train's driver, Tom Harding. Harding's lawyer Thomas Walsh says he thinks the government is trying to give the impression it's on top of the file after it was invisible when the railway was shaving costs right down to the bone before the 2013 crash. (Harding is facing 47 counts of criminal negligence causing death -- one for each of the disaster victims. The new charges were laid by Transport Canada and Environment Canada and target several people and companies linked to the train that smashed into the Quebec town nearly two years ago.)
