Canada's former national basketball coach has testified at a defamation trial on behalf of former Vancouver Olympics CEO John Furlong. Ken Shields says freelance journalist Laura Robinson wrote a story for the Globe and Mail in 1994 that implied he was racist. The Globe issued a retraction but Shields says the damage was done. (Shields says he offered his sympathy to Furlong when he saw that Robinson had written an article that alleged he abused First Nations students at a Catholic school in northern B-C some 45 years ago.)
