Fice Minister Mike de Jong says higher-than-forecast revenues have catapulted B-C's budget into solid surplus territory. He says the final accounting numbers for the fiscal year that ended in March reveal a budget surplus of almost 1.7 billion dollars -- up dramatically from the original forecast of 184 million dollars. (De Jong says the surplus gives the government room to fund modest initiatives, but he also warned of signs of economic downturns in Canada other countries.)
