A pipeline at Nexen's Long Lake oilsands project in northeastern Alberta has leaked, spilling about five million litres of a mixture of bitumen, water and sand. Premier Rachel Notley says she believes pipelines are still the best way to transport oil and gas. (Notley is reacting to the spill from St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, where she's been attending meetings with her fellow premiers this week.)
