Researchers from the Vancouver Aquarium say fuel that spilled into English Bay from a container ship in April may have negatively impacted local animals and sea life. A malfunction on the M-V Marathassa set off a spill of about 27-hundred litres of bunker fuel in April. Peter Ross of the aquarium's Ocean Pollution Research Program says hydrocarbon levels found at Vancouver beaches after the spill were higher than recommended guidelines. (Ross and his team conclusively matched oil from the ship to oil found on Vancouver beaches days after the spill.)
