Vancouver Mayor Gregor Robertson is at the Vatican, where he attended a two-day climate conference. He was the only Canadian among 60 global mayors gathered to promote Pope Francis' environmental encyclical, which denounced the fossil-fuel based economy and exploitation of the poor. Robertson says he listened to a 30-minute talk from the pope and signed a declaration that calls for "urgent investments" in sustainable development, financial incentives to shift to renewable energies and aid for poorer countries. (Robertson says he'll speak to delegates tomorrow about the economic success Vancouver has seen by greening the city and tackling climate pollution.)
