Sometime over the next few months, a small lake high in the Northwest Territories will fall off a cliff. The lake sits on a plateau and as the permafrost underneath it melts -- only a few metres of soil and remaining ice hold the lake back from crashing into the Mackenzie Valley, 200 metres below. Geologist Steve Kokelj (koh-KALE) says it will be spectacular, but not unique. (Kokelj (koh-KALE) says such slumps in the Northwest Territories are getting bigger and bigger as temperatures warm and rainfall increases.)
