The Cape Breton University students' union is considering bankruptcy after a court ruling that the group owes three hundred thousand dollars to the Canadian Federation of Students. The Ontario Superior Court decision is the culmination of a lengthy legal battle over the student union's attempt to leave the national organization in 2008. Bilan Arte (BILL-in Art) is the national chairperson of the federation. (The students' union stopped collecting membership fees in 2008, but Arte says the federation is willing to allow them to pay the money back in instalments.)
