A half-billion dollars in flood-fighting projects are a step closer to reality in Manitoba. The federal and provincial government promised today to fund two channels to help reduce flooding in Lake St. Martin and Lake Manitoba. Premier Greg Selinger says getting one-third funding from Ottawa is a big boost. (The province constructed a temporary emergency channel after a flood in 2011 forced thousands -- primarily from the Lake St. Martin First Nation -- from their homes.
