Officials say hot, dry conditions and unstable weather mean a likely increase in fire activity across British Columbia over the next few days. This follows what Forests Minister Steve Thomson describes as a spike in human-caused fires over the past several days. Thomson says more than a third of the 31 fires that flared up during the long weekend were the result of human activity. (Firefighting efforts have cost the province almost 175 million dollars since April, compared to nearly 130 million dollars spent by this time last year.)
