The City of Toronto has been told to inform the public when it is forced to send raw sewage into Lake Ontario. The non-profit organization Lake Ontario Waterkeeper complained to the Environment Ministry, which conducted a one-year review. Waterkeeper founder Mark Mattson says people who use the lake have a right to know when the city is forced to bypass treatment plants and send raw sewage into it. (Mattson says there is growing pressure on the Liberal government to enact one provincial standard for all communities on the Great Lakes for notifying the public about water quality problems.)
