Alberta's justice minister says the system is headed into crisis and failing those individuals who can't afford legal representation in the courts. Kathleen Ganley says there will be a review of the Alberta system and points out it barely meets the needs of those who are low income earners. (Supreme Court Chief Justice Beverley McLachlin also expressed concern over the thousands of Canadians who cannot afford a lawyer if they need one.)
