The parents of a six-year-old boy who was beaten to death by an older child while in foster case are suing the Saskatchewan government for negligence. Lee Bonneau was found with head injuries in a wooded area on the Kahkewistahaw (kack-ah-WISH'-tah-haw) reserve in 2013. The killer was a 10-year-old boy who can't be charged. Lawyer Tony Merchant says Lee's father tried several times to convince social workers to give him his son back. (The province's child advocate determined the boy who killed Lee had behavioural issues and shouldn't have been in the community unsupervised. School staff, police and community members had repeatedly raised concerns about the older boy's behaviour.)
