Former Centerra Gold CEO Leonard Homeniuk (hoh-men-EE'-uk) says his ongoing house arrest is an intimidation tactic by the government of Kyrgyzstan in its negotiations with his former company. Homeniuk has been detained in Bulgaria since July 27th after Kyrgyzstan issued an international arrest warrant for corruption charges. The Toronto-based Centerra runs Kyrgyzstan's massive Kumtor gold mine, and the government is seeking to renegotiate their deal on ownership and revenue sharing. Homeniuk say the corruption charges are completely baseless (A judge is set to consider Kyrgyzstan's request for Homeniuk's extradition on September 16th.)
