An emotional memorial service was held in Vancouver today to remember two drowned Syrian boys whose deaths have attracted worldwide attention to the plight of refugees. The boys' aunt --Tima Kurdi -- lives in B-C and says three-year-old Alan and five-year-old Ghalib (Gha'-lib) grew up surrounded by war. (She says the widely-shared photo of Alan's lifeless body on a Turkish beach should be a wake-up call to the world.)
