The federal New Democrats say they can run four years of budgetary surpluses by increasing corporate tax rates and still meet billions in spending promises. NDP candidate Peggy Nash, who was the party's finance critic in the last Parliament, says the New Democrats won't be able to reverse all of the decisions of the Harper Conservative government, but their costed fiscal plan will go a long way toward changing Canada's economic policies. (The plan includes a jump in corporate taxes to 17 per cent from 15 per cent next fiscal year. And it projects a surplus next year in the range of four billion dollars.)
