Police have killed a cougar in an Edmonton neighbourhood after wildlife officers failed to hit the big cat with a tranquilizer dart. Staff-Sergeant Steve Jones says a police officer shot the cougar as it ran toward a fence. (Jones says there was a report of cougar in a nearby industrial area yesterday. Wildlife officials say there has been an increase in cougar sightings in Alberta and B-C in recent years as the animals search for food in developed areas.)
