Soldiers, veterans and hundreds of ordinary citizens joined dignitaries under grey autumn skies at the National War Memorial this morning. They were there to mark the first anniversary of the deadly attacks that killed two members of the military. Warrant Officer Patrice Vincent was murdered in a hit-and-run by an Islamic extremist in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec on October 20th, 2014. His sister Elisabeth says the ceremony should stand as a reminder to Canadians to remember those who die in service of their country. (Two days after Vincent's death, Corporal Nathan Cirillo was gunned down at the National War Memorial. Governor General David Johnston says the police, first responders and citizens who responded to both attacks exemplified what Canada is.)
