The national president of the Canadian Legion says it's unbelievable that anyone would stoop so low as to steal plaques off two cenotaphs in Fredericton. On Monday it was discovered that three brass plaques were missing from the cenotaph in the downtown. A plaque from the cenotaph in Barkers Point was earlier reported missing. Branch 4 Legion president Don Swain says the plaques turned up -- though the names have been ground off -- after a man brought them to a metal recycling business. (Swain says the provincial government has announced it hopes to replace the plaques in time for Remembrance Day. He says each will cost thousands of dollars to replace.)
