The long-form census is back. On its first full day in power, Justin Trudeau's Liberal government has revived the census that was scrapped by the Harper Conservatives in 2010. Today, newly-minted Innovation and Science Minister Navdeep Bains announced the long questionairre would return. He also revealed it will be a mandatory census, but did not say what penalty there might be for not filling it out. (The Harper government was heavily criticized for getting rid of the long-form census, with critics saying it deprived the government of information needed to make decisions for the country.)
