Andre Alexis of Toronto has won the 100-thousand-dollar Scotiabank Giller Prize for his novel "Fifteen Dogs." The book -- about 15 dogs gifted by gods with human traits -- won the 25-thousand-dollar Rogers Writers' Trust Fiction Prize just a week ago. Alexis says he plans to continue working as always and doesn't think two prizes will change him. (The Trinidad native, who was raised in Ottawa, says the book is the second in a series of five planned novels.)
