Canada's new natural resources minister has been tasked with modernizing the National Energy Board and working with other departments to regain public trust in the environmental review process. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau sets out those instructions in a mandate letter to Jim Carr. Peter Watson is head of the National Energy Board. He says much of the work described in the mandate letter has already been done since he started in his role in mid-2014. He says pipeline reviews that are now underway will go ahead as planned for now. (About 100 groups across the country wrote a letter to Trudeau earlier this week urging a stop to pipeline reviews until the process is fixed.)
