Calgary resident Dwayne Mazereeuw (MAZ'-er-roo) says he knew lives were in peril after a giant wave hit the whale-watching vessel Leviathan Two off the coast of Vancouver Island last month. Mazereeuw and his wife Elisa survived the ordeal by clinging to a life ring until rescuers arrived from a local First Nation. But six people weren't as lucky. (Five Britons and an Australian man have been identified as the people who died in the sinking, now the subject of several investigations, including a probe by the Transportation Safety Board of Canada.)
