Immigration officials in Nova Scotia say preparations continue for the arrival of the first of the 25-thousand Syrian refugees that Ottawa has agreed to resettle by the end of February. Immigration Minister Lena Metlege Diab says the province continues to field calls from the public through its 2-1-1 line and has received 917 calls so far from individuals and groups offering various forms of help, from food and clothing to lodging and financial assistance. (Diab says the province doesn't have an exact indication of how many of the 10-thousand refugees that are to arrive in Canada by the end of December will be coming to the province.)
