Baboons at the Toronto Zoo have been battling for the enclosure's throne for nearly a year, after the death of the matriarch Betty. Medical records obtained through freedom of information laws show numerous injuries among five of the six female baboons -- from deep lacerations near eyes, to hair ripped out, to tail injuries. Chris Dutton, the zoo's senior veterinarian, says staff only intervene to help with medical issues. (While baboons can fight to the death in the wild, the zoo says it has never lost a baboon because of a fight.)
