The federal government has signalled that Canada could welcome double the number of refugees it initially promised to bring to Canada this year, by the end of 2016. Immigration Minister John McCallum broke down the potential new total after he held face-to-face meetings with some of his provincial counterparts. (Governor General David Johnston hosted a forum today that brought federal, provincial and municipal political leaders together with heads of business organizations and aid groups trying to better co-ordinating efforts to deal with the impending influx of the 25-thousand refugees that are anticipated by the end of February.)
