The Nova Scotia government is adopting a more conciliatory tone with its largest public-sector union after the union ignored a deadline to signal its intent on a contract vote. The Nova Scotia Government and General Employees Union delayed the vote after the province's teachers rejected a similar contract offer Tuesday. Deputy premier Diana Whalen says the government is still encouraging the NSGEU to hold a vote. (In a letter sent to the NSGEU yesterday, the government said it would consider withdrawing its tentative contract offer if a ratification vote is not concluded by Monday. Whalen would not say what would happen if the vote isn't held Monday.)
