Ontario has given final approval to a private member's bill aimed at combating the abuse of the powerful opiate fentanyl, which usually comes in the form of a transdermal patch. New Democrat health critic France Gelinas told the legislature fentanyl is a very dangerous drug and its abuse is a serious problem across northern Ontario. (Under the bill, people with a prescription for fentanyl would only be given new patches with the drug when they turn in old, used patches.)
