Two separate reports released today have used different strategies to reach the same conclusion -- Canada's health care wait times leave much to be desired. The Fraser Institute says the median wait time between getting a referral to a specialist and actually receiving treatment is 18.3 weeks, more than double what it was 20 years ago. Report author Bacchus Barua (BACK'-us bah-ROO'-uh) says this can have very serious consequences. (The other report came from the Wait Time Alliance, which found that wait times for many types of surgeries fall well outside what it considers to be acceptable benchmarks.)
