More than 160 Syrian refugees arrived in Toronto late last night aboard a military aircraft to begin a new life in Canada. After being cleared at Pearson International Airport, the refugees were to be housed in hotels before meeting their private sponsors today. Christine Youssef, whose parents were born in Syria, was waiting outside a hotel near the airport for five cousins to arrive. (Last night's flight was the the first government aircraft carrying refugees as the government works to fulfil a pledge of bringing in 25-thousand refugees by the end of February. A second flight is set to arrive in Montreal tomorrow.)
