A federal Liberal government election promise to re-open the Vancouver coast guard station will be fulfilled. Fisheries Minister Hunter Tootoo made the announced today. Vancouver Mayor Gregor Robertson says re-opening the base will allow for a stronger and faster response in the event of trouble. (A grain ship spilled 28-hundred litres of bunker fuel into Vancouver's harbour last April.)
