Canadian military personal fighting the Islamic State found themselves heavily involved in what is described as a major offensive by extremists today. Canadian fighter jets were in action striking an I-SIL fighting position near Mosul in northern Iraq. General Charles Lamarre says Canadian special forces advisors training Kurdish forces used their weapons. (Although the special forces advisors are in a non-combat role, Lamarre says they're always prepared to be able to defend themselves and the Kurdish fighters they are training.)
