The mayor of Coquitlam, B-C says he was honoured to receive the first haircut by a new refugee barber from Syria -- Mohammed Kurdi. Richard Stewart says he hopes the cut symbolizes a fresh start for the man's family, which arrived in late December after the tragic drowning of Kurdi's nephew Alan on a Turkish beach. (Kurdi, his wife and their five children are sponsored by Alan's aunt Tima Kurdi, who has become a spokeswoman for people fleeing war-torn Syria.)
